2TS productivity progress update – Quarter 4 2012

Productivity has improved in the British pig herd. Figures to the end of December 2012 showed:

• The top third of indoor herds achieved the two-tonne sow (2TS) target
• The top 10% of indoor herds managed to wean an extra half pig per sow per year

A productivity gap remains between indoor and outdoor units:

• The top 10% of indoor units are weaning three pigs per sow more than the average outdoor units
