Certificates of Competence
What: Practical, relevant qualifications, with candidates assessed on farm. There are three levels of qualification:
- Pig Stockmanship and Welfare
- Pig Husbandry Skills
- Pig Unit Supervision and Operation
There are learning materials available and candidates can decide with their managers when they are ready to be assessed. Learner folders are available for the Pig Husbandry certificate and the Pig Unit Supervision and Operation certificate. All the units required to achieve the certificate are supplied in the folders.
Attending a BPEX training course such as the Stockman Development Scheme or Technical Managers Scheme is also a good way to help prepare for assessment.
Who:
- Pig Stockmanship and Welfare • Stockpeople who have worked with pigs for at least six months
- Pig Husbandry Skills • Skilled stockpeople who work unsupervised
- Pig Unit Supervision and Operation • Advanced stockpeople and supervisors who exercise responsibility
When: Preparation and assessment can be arranged at any time to suit the candidate.
