Health and Safety

Agriculture remains a high risk industry with regards to the number of serious injuries and deaths each year, especially in relation to the number of people employed.

Farmers are responsible for the Health, Safety and Welfare of not only those directly employed, but also all contractors, visitors and any third parties who may come into contact with the farming activity.

The modern approach to health and safety is through risk assessment and risk management. There are a number of regulations with which farmers must comply.

Health and safety within the agricultural sector covers a wide range of topics, however, this leaflet is a guide to the issues that specifically pose a problem to the pig industry.
