Update from Dr Paul Bilsborrow at Cockle Park:

Filling the digester
- As the cows are out to pasture currently the only input for the digester is pig slurry
- Before the cows went out to grass, the primary digester was operating at 42°C and the secondary digester was heated to 37°C
Using the Digestate
- The first application of the digestate took place at the start of May on the University farm (pictured)
- The farm manager was pleasantly surprised at the lack of odour and the ease of spreading

The first series of one-day workshops ran from November to April and drew 205 visitors. A fresh round of dates is currently being drawn up, recommencing at the end of September. For more details please contact Jenny Conn: jenny.conn@ncl.ac.uk
