Stockman Development

This is a general scheme, co-ordinated by BPEX at a regional level. The concept is to pull individual staff from farms to form a small group of stockmen looking to develop their knowledge and background.

The scheme involves regular workshops and visits to other areas of production to gain a general understanding of pig production, helping them understand where they fit in to the bigger picture.

This scheme can be adapted and made relevant to individual companies, if that suits their business needs.

Aim & Objectives

  • Encourage staff development
  • Provide alternative experiences to develop wide base of skills
  • Encourage participation in knowledge transfer activities
  • Provide structured development and support for stockpeople

Outcomes

  • Practically trained staff in the industry with wide knowledge of the whole supply chain
  • Staff with an interest in personal development
  • Increased motivation of staff
  • Staff with a wider understanding of production, an understanding of why things happen and where their role fits into the production chain.

  • Set number of workshops and visits over the year.
  • Production of schedule and scheme handbook to ensure knowledge transfer.
