There is a wide range of European, UK, British and regional legislation which impacts upon the British pig production and processing industry.
The enactment of legislation may well be devolved to regional assemblies and enforcement to bodies such as local authorities and agencies which have the power and responsibility to ensure compliance with the law. Those enforcement bodies are ususally good sources of information on the interpretation of the regulations.
Some of the key areas of legislation relating to the production and processing of pigs are summarised below. It should be noted that this not an exhaustive list of all legislation relating to the industry.
